Welcome to the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia and Pain Medicine of the University of Arkansas
for Medical Sciences (UAMS) located at Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH). The anesthesiologists,
certified registered nurse anesthetists, and staff are dedicated to providing care, love, and
hope to their patients throughout the perioperative period.
The vast majority of our physician faculty have completed post-residency fellowship training
in pediatric anesthesia and are all either board certified in anesthesiology by the American
Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) or currently enrolled in the ABA examination process.
In addition, many also have further training in pediatrics, pediatric critical care, pediatric
cardiac anesthesia or pain medicine. Three members of our faculty are non-pediatric trained
(but core specialty board-certified) anesthesiologists who provide full-time support to the
Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH) Burn Center, where the majority of the patients are adults.
The anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists provide clinical care at a wide variety of locations
around the ACH campus, including the main operating room suite, cardiovascular operating rooms,
radiology department, and burn center, among others. The faculty and staff also provide both acute
and chronic pain services. All ACH-based anesthesiologists are physician
faculty members of UAMS.
The Division of Pediatric Anesthesia and Pain Medicine works with UAMS to provide excellent
anesthesiology residency training experiences as part of the core anesthesiology residency program,
and also provide a pediatric anesthesia fellowship program that is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The fellowship program is for graduate residents
who seek to obtain additional training and expertise in pediatric anesthesia. The division also provides
educational opportunities for a variety of students and residents from other training programs.
